The Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH, the central patent and marketing agency for 28 Bavarian universities and universities of applied sciences, will from now on manage the proprietary protection and the marketing of the inventions of the Universität der Bundeswehr München.
The central tasks of the universities consist of research and teaching. The research projects lead to new scientific knowledge and also often generate new technologies, which can be the base for new products and services and are thus suited for further development. For this purpose interesting inventions of the universities are, beside a scientific publication, being commercially protected with patents or utility models and afterwards commercially exploited via licences and patent assignments to industry.
In the future the technology transfer of the Universität der Bundeswehr München is carried out in cooperation with the Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH. Unlike the other nine Bavarian universities, until now the Universität der Bundeswehr München organised the claim of inventions not in collaboration wit the Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH, but used its own specific procedure. Due to the new contract the university now gets access to a broad range of services, which should make it even easier for the inventors of the university to profitably transfer marketable inventions into product innovations. Thus after the first consultation and the invention disclosure at the Universität der Bundeswehr München the succeeding analysis of the invention with the help of detailed market, novelty and technology surveys as well as the initiation of the proprietary protection of the invention is carried out by an interdisciplinary team of experienced scientists, engineers, business experts and lawyers of the Bayerischen Patentallianz GmbH. Furthermore, the broad network of the Bayerischen Patentallianz GmbH within industry and economy allows for the identification of the best suitable industrial partner for an invention. Besides, the profits originating from the marketing of the invention flow back to the inventor and the university according to the employee's inventions legislation (ArbnErfG). The Universität der Bundeswehr München, which consists of a university sector and a college sector, offers the best conditions for efficient research operations from basic research to applied research with its equipment. In particular the faculties for construction engineering and surveying, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology, informatics as well as aerospace technology cooperate at national and international level with scientific facilities, universities, as well as with industry and public institutions. Currently numerous projects are in progress, among them experiments on flood control and flow simulations in a wind tunnel. An investigation in the area of renewable energies should answer the question how energy can be won from wind flow for the supply of sensors. The first invention from the Universität der Bundeswehr München, a medical technology, has already been announced to the Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH.
Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH As the central patent and marketing agency for 28 Bavarian universities and universities of applied sciences, the Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH markets the inventions of more than 18,000 scientists. Thereby, it supports the researchers in protecting their inventions and then facilitates its commercial use. We provide industry with a unique access to the largest technology pool in Bavaria. Thanks to the internationally renowned research quality of the Bavarian universities, Bayerische Patentallianz GmbH owns a high quality range of marketable innovations and patents in life sciences and physical sciences. www.baypat.de
