Roland joined BayPAT in 2013 and leads the Physical Sciences Licensing Team. He is involved in the entire business development and licensing process to commercialize inventions.
Prior to joining BayPAT, Roland worked as a development engineer at Mattson Thermal Products and project manager of research and development at IPAL. He has a background in physics, chemistry and software development. He studied in Freiburg, Manchester and Berlin where he received his PhD degree for his work on ultrafast laser spectroscopy and molecular reaction dynamics in the group of Prof. Niklolaus Ernsting. Subsequently, Roland spent two years at University of Zürich as a postdoc focusing on 2D-infrared spectroscopy in the group of Prof. Peter Hamm. Next, he joined Mattson Thermal Products, a leading supplier to the semiconductor industry, where he was focused on developing hardware and algorithms for robust thermal treatment for global chip production. At IPAL GmbH he pushed development of prototypes for telecommunication lasers or DNA sequencing. He applied himself to patents at Mattson and graduated in European patent rights from Beuth University in Berlin.
